Hunkering down for Hurricane Irma

For weeks we've been following the devastating news out of Texas, and now all of a sudden here in Florida, we are the news.

As I write this on Saturday morning September 9, Hurricane Irma is expected to make landfall as a Category 3 or 4 near the Fort Myers area in southwest Florida.

Here's what I've been doing this week to prepare.

We've got some new Florida residents here at the condo and here's an email I got from one of them yesterday:

"Good luck to everyone and have fun! We are only moderately brave at this point and will be undergoing the freshman level in Ocala."

Even though the track of Irma is now closer to Ocala than here, there's something to be said for the fact that so much wind gets blocked by other things around you, whereas here on the coast there's nothing blocking the wind and rain coming in off the ocean.
